Comandos present when UMO fires Teargas
on ISSS Hospital

The UMO, Unidad Mantenimiento de Orden tried to take over ISSS Hospital and Rosales, which resulted in various respitory problems due to Pepper Gas.  One journalist was injured in the left leg by rubber 12 gauge shot.  Comando Volunteer Isidro Quintanilla carries injured child affected by tear gas toward Rosales Hospital entrance.

December 1999
Some 120 people were affected by toxic gasses in Canton Táblon, San juan jurisdiction. The majority affected were children. The community was evacuated by members of Comandos and Red Cross. Victims symptoms were vomiting, itching, and difficulty in breathing. Most patients were taken to Rosales and Bloom Hospitals. Comandos from the Antiguo Cuscatlan base were present and started rescuing at 12:30 in the morning. Comando Volunteer Eduardo Quijano rescues a child affected by gasses.

-Cultural Note-

During the month of December, all sorts of fireworks stands are notorious for explosions and "incendios." Salvadoran Christmas time is like the 4th of July in the states.  M-80s, Cherrybombs and the infamous "Morteros" abound during the Christmas season.

Anniversary Party with Cumbia, Piñatas, and a Barbeque!

During the celebration this past 20th of November, awards were given to the Salvadoran Newspapers and Televised News programs that have supported the Comandos during the difficult times our country has had this year by reporting the work of the Comandos. Awards were also given to individual Comando Emergency Volunteers that have shown an incredible amount of responsibility in serving the Salvadoran people during times of need in 1999.
