Over the last 12 days the CDS fumigation brigade has been combating dengue and other mosquito born illnesses alongside the municipal mayors office and the Public Health Ministry in Berlín Usulután. Fumigation brigade lead Comando Carlos Fuentes reports that more than 4,000 homes were fumigated around Urban Berlín, and surrounding neighborhoods of Loma Abajo, Loma Arriba, Talpetate, Tablón, and La Jardín. Carlos and six other EMS members stayed for the full 12 days working against mosquito larvae that can house itself in stagnant waters and common “pilas”-cement sinks-in almost every Salvadoran home. CDS took part in an extrication of a patient from an MVA in Apopa, north of San Salvador. Comando Carlos Rivas worked inside the cabin delicatley cutting away metal and debris that was trapping the patients legs while EMT’s Vanessa Martinez, Julio Cesar offered security and comfort to the anxious patient from the outside.
CDS first applied a c-collar to assure neutral position and did the best they could to place a seated backboard behind the patient in order to increase more stability of the spine. The patients lower left leg presented fractured so a splint was put in place to stabilize the tibia and fibia. The patient was then placed on a backboard after resecting him from the vehicle and he was transported with vitals and LOC being monitored.

A Mass Casualty Incident this last Monday involved fifteen vehicles in an MVA near El Congo in the department of Santa Ana. Among regular vehicles, a semi truck and five buses were tangled in the chaotic mess. Over 50 people were injured. First Responder crews from the delegate bases of El Congo and Sapotitán offered Basic Life Support and First Aid to injured patients. Most of the injured were transported to the hospital in Santa Ana while their vitals were monitored. Despite the gravity of the situation, there were only minor injuries and no deaths. Two thumbs up to CDS bases of El Congo and Sapotitán for demonstrating quickness and EMS professionalism. Press Report here. Fotos: Ricardo Segura.
